A Parisian Executive Committee as a prelude to the Abidjan General Meeting

On June 21, 2024, the ATAF Executive Committee was held at the Aéroclub de France in Paris.

After a presentation of the economic environment of Air Transport made by the Roland Berger Cabinet, the committee validated the agenda of our next General Assembly which will be held in Abidjan on Saturday, November 23, 2024, at the invitation of General Abdoulaye Coulibaly, President of Air Côte d’Ivoire and President of ATAF, under the high patronage of the Ivorian State.

In addition to the traditional items on the agenda (Air Transport news, ATAF news, account validation, new entrants, etc.).

The 4 round tables that will structure our AGM will be as follows:

  • How can ATAF companies assess their financial strategy,
  • The air transport industry faces a shortage of qualified personnel (pilots, engineers, mechanics, etc.),
  • Artificial Intelligence in the service of air transport,
  • Airlines face cyberattacks,
  • Crisis management

December Seminar: “The Economic Challenges of Airlines Based on Cost Analysis”

copyright : Chalabala

The next seminar offered by ATAF will be held on Tuesday, December 5, 2023 at 10:00 a.m.

This seminar, hosted by Mr. Frédéric Gagey, former President of Air France, ex. DG Economy and Finance of Air France-KLM will be held in the lounge on the 1st floor of our premises in Montreuil:

ATAF

Altaïs Tower – Gate 3

1, Place Aimé Césaire

93100 MONTREUIL

The purpose of this seminar is to approach the economic and financial challenges of airlines. These challenges are multiple:

  • Cost of fuel,
  • fleet investments,
  • maintenance costs,
  • full ownership/operational lease choice for aircraft ownership,
  • cost of a loyalty program, etc.

We propose to go through the published accounts of several airlines and to question on each line the meaning of the accounting aggregate, then to broaden to the identification of the factors influencing the value of the aggregate and the various underlying economic and financial issues.

This is not an accounting course, but a research using the accounting tool to extract the financial and economic meaning for airlines.

The analysis will be based on the triptych: Income statement (P&L) / Balance sheet / Cash flow statement, the starting points for any financial analysis.

We hope that through these shared experiences you will enrich your analysis of an airline’s financial documents and better understand the challenges of the aviation world.

Target Audience:

This seminar is offered mainly to General Managers and/or Financial Directors and/or Management Control Managers.

ATAF General Assembly

In Toulouse

An Executive Committee at Le Bourget

The executive committee was an opportunity for meetings between airlines but also with aircraft manufacturers. Here Mr. Akoum from Airbus and Mr. Ast from Embraer surrounded by the managers of Air France, Air Algérie and Air Mauritius.

While all the international excellence of aeronautics was gathered for the air show at Le Bourget airport, ATAF held its exceptional executive committee this Wednesday, June 21, in the form of a lunch of meetings and exchanges between the different members of the Association.

Almost all of the member companies were present, as well as partners including the manufacturers ATR, Airbus and Embraer, as well as the lessor Aércap, Sixt and also Allianz, which has been working alongside ATAF for several years now.

A meal which was an opportunity to celebrate the agreements put in place during the year such as those between Air Algérie and Mauritania Airlines or the sales contract signed the same day between Airbus and Air Algérie.

ATAF at Paris Air Forum

For ten editions, the #ParisAirForum has brought together, deciphered, analyzed, debated; transforming the “PAF” into an unmissable event for the sector for speakers, the press, and the public. A place for exchange and meeting, it highlights the role of aerospace as a pillar of international industrial dynamism through its ability to innovate and invent sustainable solutions that shine and benefit all of our societies.

On this occasion, ATAF was invited to participate in a round table on the theme “Can Africa take off?”. Jean-Claude CROS was able to represent the association and speak on this topic with other players in the African aviation sector.

ATAF offsets its 2022 carbon emissions

In addition to ATAF’s day-to-day activities, the association generates a carbon footprint during the travel it incurs, particularly during the General Assemblies and Executive Committee meetings which bring together more than 20 member companies from all over Africa and the French Overseas Territories.

Following the announcement of the carbon neutrality objective made at the 128th ATAF General Assembly by Claude Thenevin, ATAF Development Director, the association has subscribed to the compensation offer proposed by Carbon O.

In addition to ATAF’s current activity, which generated less than 1 tonne of CO2 in 2022, the travel of the forty or so members present at the General Assembly which took place in Mauritius in October 2022 generated more than 118 tonnes of CO2.

The amounts corresponding to the investment necessary to offset ATAF’s carbon emissions have thus been allocated to a solar farm project in Madagascar. The “clean” energy generated by these solar panels will be deducted from ATAF’s “carbon debt”.

Four new members since October 2022

ATAF, which until now had 19 airlines and about fifteen partners from the aviation sector, has accepted the subscriptions of 4 new members. Among them is the return of Air Austral, which was already a member of ATAF from 1988 to 2011 and which returned to ATAF as a partner member in October 2022.

Another new registrant for October 2022, Brussels Airlines makes a timely entry among ATAF members, at a time when air traffic in Africa has returned to the pace of before 2019.

Arriving in November, Rogers Aviation, a subsidiary of the Rogers group already a member of ATAF, is the 22nd airline member of ATAF since November 2022.

Embraer, which had already participated in the 2019 General Assembly, also joined the ATAF partner members in November 2022, at the same time as the airline software publisher Maureva. Embraer is the 3rd manufacturer to approach ATAF after Airbus (associate sponsor at the AGM) and ATR.

This General Assembly also invited the main French-speaking representatives of tourism and travel to its work and is part of the resumption of post-COVID air traffic and a worrying climate context.
