Madagascar Airlines has finally joined the Billing and Settlement Plan and the IATA Clearing House, after a few months of delay (its integration was initially planned for June 2023). Its Chairman and CEO Thierry De Bailleul announced this on Thursday, March 21, 2024, during a press conference, reports the local press.<\/p>\n\n

“Madagascar Airlines is once again a full member of IATA. Now, with our reintegration, it is possible to book flights to destinations such as Antananarivo or Nosy Be, through a large network of travel agencies affiliated with the BSP, which covers 70 to 90% of the market,” says Mr. de Bailleul.<\/p>\n\n

If he speaks of reintegration, it is because the new Malagasy national flag was born from Air Madagascar (and Tsadaria its subsidiary specializing in domestic flights), which was excluded from the BSP in 2016 and 2018, because it no longer paid its fees for compensating for tickets issued but not used (BENU). Yet another new CEO at the head of Air Burkina. This time, it is Azakaria TRAORE appointed during the council of ministers held this Wednesday, March 6, 2024, in Ouagadougou, the Burkinabe capital. The civil aviation engineer replaces Maxime Dipina Christian TOE, in office since May 11, 2022. The latter’s departure comes at a time when the carrier’s flight schedule is experiencing disruptions due to the withdrawal for maintenance needs of its Embraer E190 rented from Bestfly.<\/p>\n\n

Previously sales director, Maxime Dipina Christian TOE had succeeded Blaise Sanou, dismissed on April 27, 2022, three days after the fire declared on one of the two E195s of the Burkinabe flagship, which occurred at Ouagadougou international airport. At the time of the events, this aircraft was its only operational aircraft. On standby since May 11, 2017, Blaise Sanou struggled to roll out a real restructuring plan, intended to improve the air carrier’s financial indicators.<\/p>\n\n

Azakaria TRAORE was the Director General of the National Agency for Civil Aviation (ANAC). He inherited a loss-making and indebted company that no longer had its own aircraft in service. Since Friday, March 8, 2024, Camair-Co, Cameroon’s public carrier, has been aligning an Embraer E175 on its network.<\/p>\n\n

According to Flightradar data, the aircraft is mainly assigned to domestic routes serving Yaounde, Douala, Maroua and Garoua.<\/p>\n\n

The 12-year-old aircraft, which offers 88 single-class seats, was leased from Greek carrier Marathon Airlines. It is an asset of leasing company Azorra Aviation.<\/p>\n\n

In a recent press release, the company justifies this temporary rental “due to the early departure for maintenance of part of its fleet in anticipation of the peak periods of the summer holidays and pilgrimages<\/em>“. The airline Corsair, in partnership with the Overseas Ecological Transition Institute (ITEDOM) and Newrest, the world’s leading independent player in airline catering, announced on March 6 the launch of a waste management project for flights to Martinique.<\/p>\n\n

Since March 8, Corsair has been the first airline to implement a system for sorting and managing waste on board aircraft, marking a major turning point in the dynamics in favor of waste management in the French overseas departments.<\/p>\n\n

Thanks to this innovative partnership, Corsair, ITEDOM and Newrest are taking the initiative to change the situation: this pilot project will be deployed in Martinique first, making this island territory a pioneer in this ecological approach. It is important to note that waste from flights in Martinique was previously incinerated, thus highlighting the urgency of finding sustainable solutions. Waste is a real scourge, especially in the overseas territories where recycling infrastructures are limited. This project is part of a common desire of these stakeholders to work for the respect of these territories, for the preservation of their beauty and their biodiversity.<\/p>\n\n

Subsequently, this process will be gradually extended to other airports, notably in Paris, Reunion Island and Guadeloupe.<\/p>\n\n

This collaboration demonstrates the importance of involving all stakeholders to contribute locally to better waste management.
